Some people are saying that the govt is cheating with regards to petrol prices as it has not changed in 6 weeks.

In my opinion, it looks like the govt is recently trying to manage the fuel prices within a band over a short-term period and smoothing the ups and downs of the petrol price.

However, based on a comparison with countries employing the same formula as Malaysia where there is no tax and no subsidies such as Oman, our petrol prices do not differ much from them.

Petrol prices in Oman has been completely liberated recently starting Jan 2018, hence the prices should be very similar to Malaysia.
Fuel prices go up in Oman as government lifts cap

In Oman's case, their price for last week was RM2.21 - similar to Malaysia's RM2.20.

in the past, our petrol prices also were close to the prices of in UAE as they had used the same formula as ours although they set their prices every month instead of every week for us.

However, starting 1st Jan 2018, UAE no imposed 5% GST on their petrol.

Therefore, the RM2.38 petrol price they have now is equivalent to RM2.26 + 5% GST.

At RM2.26, it is also not much different than our RM2.20.

So the govt is not over-charging for petrol in Malaysia and neither is it over-subsidizing it.

So there is nothing for Pakatan people to complain about when our prices have not changed in the past week as Malaysia's petrol prices remains 17th cheapest in the world out of 180 countries.

LSS.
