Why did Masagos give such a terrible interview?

After the PAP Minister Masagos Zulkifli gave his interview at the Bicara program, quite a lot of Muslims approached us online asking...

why did Masagos give such a terrible interview?

They said that his statements were disappointing and that he has changed drastically from the person we once knew.

A brother messaged an admin saying Masagos "really has screwed up his previous good relationship with the malays."

Was his interview really that terrible?

Has he really made a mess of his relationship with the Malays?

Not really.

There are a lot of rumours about Masagos becoming the next Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs.

If these rumours are true, we can understand why he made such terrible comments.

We believe there are 3 main reasons:

First, Masagos is trying to show Lee Hsien Loong and other PAP leaders that when he becomes the Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs, he will remain loyal to the PAP's position.

Second, he is showing the non-Muslim Singaporeans that he will not favour the Muslim community and would demand more from us.

Third, he is preparing the Muslim ground for the normalization and legalization of LGBT.

We are sure that he has calculated the potential loss from Muslim community perception and support and the gain he will make from the political elites and non-Muslims.

He has built some goodwill with the Muslim community especially through his association with Perdaus.

And some of the less analytical Malays will accept any Malay Minister regardless of the difficulties he causes them.

But it is the non-Muslims and the elites that he need to convince.

Basically, it is a simple trade off. He had good support from the Malays.

He made some statements that makes it difficult for the Malays.....that may cost him some support.

But in return, gain support from the non-Muslims and party elites.

We do not matter much.

For the PAP, Malay support is certain.

They use it to trade support for the communities they really want.
