Did you know that Superman has an entire town dedicated to his name?
In the state of Illinois, there actually exists a town named 'Metropolis', a name similar to the legendary fictional city of Superman. Officially dubbed 'The Home of Superman' in 1972, the entire town is dedicated to the rich history and legacy of the Man Of Steel.
A global tourist spot for Superman fans, the town houses a 15-foot tall bronze statue of Superman and several other Superman themed attractions, including a statue dedicated to the original Lois Lane actress Noel Neill. The local bank in the town is named "Home of Super Financial Services" and the town newspaper is called 'The Planet', after Daily Planet. The town's lighthouse, named 'The Hope Light', stands as the world’s first lighthouse dedicated to the fight against cancer.
The town is also the home of world famous 'Super Museum', which has collected over 70,000 items related to Superman. The collection on display includes nearly every Superman toy produced, comic book memorabilia, and live-action items such as the George Reeves color costume and the Christopher Reeve movie costume.
Metropolis, Illinois hosts Superman Day celebrations every year on the second week of June, which is attended by thousands of Superman fans from accross the world.
